Why Are MOQ for Custom Plush Toys So High? Tips on how to Start Your Plush Toy Project
Plush toys are excellent merchandise, vividly representing your brand and enhancing interaction with fans.
However, the minimum order quantity for plush toys is often quite high, sometimes even exceeding 1,000 units. Why is the minimum order quantity so high? Why are prices significantly higher for orders below 1,000 units? This article will explain the reasons behind this:
- High sample cost. As factories generally charge a low fee for samples, they need larger orders to offset the cost of the samples.
- Fixed costs of machine. Small orders would result in a loss. For example, in the fabric printing process, color adjustment and preparation are required. Each different product requires this preparation process, which takes about 3 hours, while the actual printing for small orders only takes 30 minutes. This greatly increases the cost per product.
- The cost of the process is high. The larger the factory, the more processes and process management personnel there are. More positions are configured for factories with certifications such as Disney. This ensures the quality and accuracy of the products produced. In fact, for large factories, orders below 2,000 units are loss-making.
So, how do you find a plush toy factory that is willing to accept orders below 1,000 units and still maintains good quality?
- Prepare your budget. Generally speaking, you can find relatively good factories for orders of at least 500 units. Based on the reasons analyzed earlier, we suggest that you do not spend time looking for factories that are willing to accept orders of 1-200 and expect them to be good quality, because there are no such factories.
- Avoid large factories and choose medium and small factories. You can search through Alibaba and Google. It’s best to choose factories in Dongguan, Guangdong, as this is the region with the highest level of plush toy production in China.
- Understand the factory’s sample production level and cycle. Ask the factory how many sample designers they have, their years of experience, show some design samples, and ask which regions their main customers are from. Since different countries have different design styles, it’s best to find a factory that often cooperates with customers in your region. They can better turn your design drawings into physical objects.
- Ask the factory if they have a QC team or accept third-party quality inspections. Factories with QC teams usually produce products with a lower defect rate.
